MSUM Hosts Minot State Thursday, Travels to Mary Saturday

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead women's basketball will host Minot State on Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. before the Dragons travel to face off with Mary on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Live stats and video will be available at msumdragons.com.

Opening Tip

Quick Hits...The Dragons took the first matchup against Minot State earlier this season in a 68-40 demolition inside the MSU Dome. MSUM has only lost two games to the Beavers dating back to February 21, 2014. Mary took the first tilt against the Dragons as MSUM would erase a 30-point halftime deficit. However, MSUM would come up short, falling 68-63. The Dragons last defeated the Marauders on February 18, 2023.

Johnson In Elite Company...Sophomore forward Terryn Johnson hauled in 20 rebounds in MSUM's 75-52 win over Minnesota Crookston last Tuesday. In the victory, Johnson became just the ninth Dragon to grab 20 or more rebounds in a contest and is the first to accomplish the feat since Meghan Rettke in January of 2009. In that game in 2009. Rettke set the single-game school record for rebounds as she would snare 22 boards, also against Minnesota Crookston.

Feeling Glassy...In the win over the Golden Eagles on Tuesday, MSUM would bring in an astonishing 67 team rebounds. They concluded the game with a plus-27 rebound advantage in the contest. It is the most team rebounds in a game since November 23, 2002, when the Dragons reeled in 61 rebounds against Flagler. MSUM would win that contest 80-44 and would finish with a plus-30 rebound advantage. Currently, MSUM is the leading rebounding team in the NSIC, pulling down 42.1per game.  That mark is also top 35 in the country.

Jens Eclipsing A Milestone....Junior guard Natalie Jens collected her 100th career steal in MSUM's loss to Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon. Jens also surpassed 900 career points with 12 against the Beavers on Saturday. Heading into Thursday's tilt with Minot State, Jens sits at 903 career points in three seasons with MSUM.

Fisher Finding Her Groove...Freshman Karlee Fisher has seen her offensive aggressiveness heightened over the last two games for MSUM. Fisher led the team by scoring a career-high 17 points against Minnesota Crookston on Tuesday, which included three made three-pointers. It was Fisher's third game in double figures this season and her fifth game with two or more made threes. Fisher would net another pair of triples in the loss to Bemidji State on Saturday.

Double-Double Machine...While Terryn Johnson is rightfully commanding much of the attention for MSUM's success on the glass, freshman Abby Berge has been equally as important. Berge earned her third double-double of the season against Minnesota Crookston on Tuesday, grabbing 13 rebounds to go along with 15 points. Both mark are career highs for the Sunburg, Minn., native.

Staying Stingy...While MSUM has had harsh shooting games it's not for a lack of good looks. Despite the struggles, the Dragons do make up for it defensively, holding opponents to a 38.5 field goal mark and a measly 32.3 percent from long range.

What They Do Well...The Beavers are led by Sydney Gustavsson, who pours in 12.2 points per game with a 40.5 percent field goal mark. Mary is led by Lexie Schneider, who is currently averaging 20.9 points per game at a whopping 54.4 percent field goal clip.

Karla Nelson is in her 24th season as MSUM's head women's basketball coach.
