MANDAN, N.D. -- MSU Moorhead tennis dropped their final road match of the NSIC season on Saturday morning. The Dragons fell to Minnesota Crookston 5-2 inside the Mandan Tennis Center.
MSUM would begin competition strong with another win at number one doubles. The pairing of
Luzmary Diaz Castillo and
Shaelyn Johnson earned their ninth win of the season, winning 6-3. However, that would be the lone doubles win for the Dragons on the day as the Golden Eagles earned victories at the number two and three spots.
The Dragons would no doubt battle for team points as singles play ensued. Diaz Castillo narrowly fell to Madeline Schneider in a spirited straight sets effort. Schneider would win 7-5, 7-6. Johnson would also fight in number two singles to Daniela de Lucas Rivera. The senior would fall 6-4 in the first set before rallying and forcing a tiebreaker to keep herself in the match. Johnson would eventually fall in the tiebreaker, moving her singles record to 8-11.
Tiannah Gu would earn her second singles win of the weekend with an impressive straight sets victory over Ariadna Solis Guals. Gu would win 6-0, 6-4 for her ninth singles win of 2023-24.
Katryna Hansen would follow suit in number four singles as the freshman would cruise to a 6-2, 6-0 straight sets victory over Blaike Zander. The win pushes Hansen's singles record to 6-8 this season. Minnesota Crookston would seal the team victory with wins at number five and six singles.
