SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- MSU Moorhead softball concluded another historic season on Friday afternoon as the Dragons fell in an NSIC Semifinal contest to top-seeded Augustana. The Vikings defeated the Dragons, 5-0.
MSUM finishes the season with a record of 33-19, including a program-best 19-9 in NSIC competition. The 33 wins in 2024 is tied for the second-most in program history. Today was the program's first opportunity in the NSIC Semifinals.
Azalya Lopez would get the start for the Dragons again on Friday and would hold the Vikings without a run in the first inning despite running into trouble off the jump. Augustana would load the bases on one hit in the inning with Lopez dealing out two walks in the frame. However, MSUM would get out of the frame thanks to a two-out ground out. On the flipside, MSUM would be limited at the plate thanks to NSIC Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year, Grace Glanzer. The Augie pitcher was fresh off a perfect game against St. Cloud State on Thursday, but did surrender her first base runner of the tournament as
Evey Evans earned a walk.
Never the les, MSUM would not manage a hit through the first three innings on Glanzer. Credit goes to Lopez, who was able to stave off the ever-potent Viking offense in the first three frames. The Dragons would be unable to muster a hit in the fourth inning on Glanzer, who began to settle in after the first-inning walk. Augustana would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth, plating three runs on three hits on Lopez.
Augustana would continue to score in the fifth inning as they would score an additional two runs on
Teagan Clemmons to push their advantage to five runs. MSUM would struggle throughout the remainder of the game against a pitcher who was dealing her best stuff. Glanzer held the Dragons without a hit in the game as Augustana would win 5-0.
