HAMMOND, Ind. – MSU Moorhead would cap the opening weekend of the 2024 season in a scoreless draw against Purdue Northwest on Sunday afternoon.
The first half would see a tremendous performance from the Dragon defense led by starting goalkeeper
Rylee Truslow. The junior transfer would make her first save as a Dragon in the sixth minute, stalling a low Pride shot. MSUM's defense would hold Purdue Northwest without a shot on goal until the 38-minute mark. Truslow would stop the high shot to keep the game scoreless as halftime neared.
Neither team would get a shot off throughout the remainder of the half as the Dragons limited Purdue Northwest to three shots (two on goal) in the first 45 minutes. Purdue Northwest would attempt two corner kicks, but neither would turn fruitful for the home club.
The Pride would begin the second half with a shot on goal in the 48
th minute that was again stopped by Truslow. The Nellysford, Va., native would knock down another Pride attempt on net in the 53
rd minute. In the 63
rd minute, Truslow would face her toughest task of the afternoon, stopping a pair of shots in quick succession. Truslow saw both attempts within 40 seconds of each other, stopping the second to create a Pride corner kick opportunity.
Truslow finished the contest with six saves in her Dragon debut as fellow junior
Quinn Carter would sub in for Truslow in the 66
th minute. Carter would immediately get tested in the 67
th minute, stalling a right facing shot from Purdue Northwest. The Mandan, N.D., native would save her second shot of the match in the 75
th minute to keep the game scoreless.
Throughout the remainder of the match, the teams would combine for just one shot attempt and one corner kick attempt. The contest ended in a scoreless tie as Truslow and Carter combined for the clean sheet, saving eight shots between them. Purdue Northwest would tally 14 total shot attempts through 90 minutes.

Marin Hensley would go the full 90 for MSUM with sophomore
Sam Azure playing 81 minutes. For Nielsen, it is her 20th consecutive game playing the full 90 minutes.
