WEST FARGO, N.D. – MSU Moorhead swimming & diving completed the first day of the annual Dragon Invite on Friday evening inside Hulbert Aquatic Center. The Dragons sit in third place as a team after one day with 272 points.
The evening session would begin with the 200-yard medley relay, which saw the Dragon team of
Demi-Lee Carlisle,
Linnea Edgren,
Ruth Pavelski and
Sophia Verke finish third with a mark of 1:52.59. Verke would anchor with a 24.29 split. MSUM's team of
Lacie Stark,
Rose Urick,
Fernanda Leon and
Maggie Moore finished just behind in fourth behind a time of 1:52.79.
Kelsey Jackson would turn in a strong race in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing third with a time of 2:10.87. In the 200-yard breaststroke,
Rose Urick would earn a fourth-place finish with a mark of 2:32.75 with Edgren swimming a 2:44.30 in the same race. In distance swimming,
Cami Mayo would place sixth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a 19:03.82 time.
Leon would finish third in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 58.79, making her one of three competitors to swim under a minute. Pavelski would claim eighth place in the same race with a time of 1:01.08.
In 1-meter diving,
Isabelle Johnson would claim a runner-up finish with an 11-dive score of 362.05.
Zoe Bjerke would also perform well, earning a fourth-place finish with a score of 352.65 while
Ruth Guy placed seventh with a score of 313.35.
To conclude the evening, MSUM's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Carlisle, Pavelski, Moore and Verke would grab a runner-up finish with a collective time of 1:39.58. Each competitor swam a sub-25 second split with Verke anchoring behind a 24.17 split. The Dragon team of Stark, Leon,
Lily Lengerich and
Joanna Phillips placed eighth in the same race with a mark of 1:44.83.
Saturday will be the final day of the Dragon Invite with events scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. inside Hulbert Aquatic Center.
