MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead women's basketball used sound defense and rebounding to collect their third straight victory on Saturday evening. The Dragons clinched a weekend sweep with a 63-53 win over Wayne State College.

- Wayne State would look solid in the opening minutes, building up a five-point lead (12-7).
- The Wildcats would remain in front after 10 minutes, but MSUM would bring the score to within four points after a late lay-in from Caylin Kelly.
- Near the midway point of the second period, MSUM used a 7-0 burst to take its first lead, 22-21. Abby Berge and Terryn Johnson scored all seven points for the Dragons.
- While Wayne State would regain the lead, MSUM would come back to tie the score (30-30) with under a minute to play in the half.
- A late free throw from Johnson gave the Dragons a one-point halftime lead (31-30).
- The teams would remain even in the early stages of the second half before MSUM buckled down on both ends.
- MSUM utilized an 8-0 run to lead 44-38. The pairing of Ashton Safranski and Emily Srejma was clicking in the run.Srejma buried a pair of jumpers from Safranski in the pick and roll.
- Srejma would score again with the help of DJ Davis as MSUM led by five points (48-43) heading into the final period of play.
- The Dragons would hold Wayne State to just 10 points in the final 10 minutes as Natalie Jens gave the Dragons a nine-point lead with under three minutes to play.
- While the Wildcats got the score to within two possessions with a minute to go, Ashley Fritz would score to put the Dragons back up eight points.
- MSUM would win 63-53, holding Wayne State to just 28.5 percent shooting in the final frame.
- Johnson would secure her second straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The junior made all six of her field goal attempts in the contest.
- Berge scored 15 points for the Dragons to go along with eight rebounds.
- Safranski was sharp again at point guard, scoring nine points, but bolstering seven rebounds, three assists, four steals and zero turnovers.

Tonight was the fourth straight win for the Dragons over Wayne State. MSUM first held a four-game streak against the Wildcats with sweeps in the '03-'04 and '04-'05 seasons. They also had a four-game win streak over Wayne State thanks to one win per year from 2016 until 2019.
