Dragons Gear Up for Northern State, St. Cloud State

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead men's basketball is set for a split week of games in NSIC competition. The Dragons take on Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D. on Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. before hosting St. Cloud State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. 

Live stats and video will be available at msumdragons.com. Fans can listen to the game against the Huskies on AM 1100/FM 92.3 with Jace Denman and 'Big Game' James McCarty on the call. 

Matchup History...MSUM holds a two-game winning streak over Northern State heading into Thursday. The Dragons defeated the Wolves back on December 5, 80-50. In total, NSU has claimed eight of the last 12 meetings between the two teams. MSUM holds a nine-game winning streak over St. Cloud State with Saturday on the horizon. The Dragons defeated the Huskies, 75-73, back on December 13. The last time SCSU defeated the Dragons was February 15, 2019 (94-88). 

Last Time Out...The Dragons were entrenched in a pair of overtime games last weekend. MSUM defeated Augustana 89-80 in overtime on Friday behind a career-high 29 points from JaMir Price. Wayne State would narrowly defeat the Dragons on Saturday in an extra session, 73-68. Logan Kinsey led MSUM with 19 points against the 'Cats. 

Sweet As JaM...Senior guard JaMir Price turned in a career effort against Augustana on Friday. Price scored a Dragon career-high of 29 points on 11 of 17 shooting. The Rock Island, Ill., native also had six rebounds and five assists. In his career, Price has scored 20 or more points eight different times. All eight of those games resulted in Dragon victories.

Prize-Winning Jenny...Junior center Jacob Jennissen also saw a career outing on Friday against the Vikings. Jennissen scored 18 points with a Dragon career-high 14 rebounds as well as five blocked shots. The Sauk Centre, Minn., native netted 10 points and seven rebounds on Saturday. Jennissen led the NSIC in blocked shots per game at 2.5 and shot 64.7 percent from the floor. 

Cruisin' Kinsey...Junior Logan Kinsey has continued to up his offensive efficiency for the Dragons. Kinsey averaged 17.5 points per game for the Dragons last weekend, including 19 points against Wayne State. The Blaine, Minn., native shot 52.2 percent from the floor for the weekend, including 60 percent on Saturday. Kinsey also shot 54.5 percent from three-point range (6-11). 

Sam Ball...Junior Sam Hastreiter turned in another pair of double figure scoring outputs last weekend. Hastreiter scored 12 points on Friday before netting 15 points on Saturday. In total, Hastreiter buried four long range shots while making nine of 10 foul shots. Heading into Thursday's game, Hastreiter has scored 10 or more points in seven straight contests. 

The Three-Point Anomaly...While the Dragons bolster the third-best three-point field goal percentage (37.1) in the NSIC, they are last in the conference in made three-point field goals (135). MSUM has the NSIC's third-best three-point field goal percentage defense (31.7). The Dragons have also allowed the fewest three-point makes in the conference this season (118). 

Quick Scout...Northern State will work at the pace of guards Marcus Burks and James Glenn, who were held to a combined 17 points in the first meeting between the two teams. St. Cloud State offers up four double figure scoring averages led by Nate Dahl (12.8) and Luke Winkel (12.4). Dahl and Winkel were held to a combined 23 points in the first meeting earlier this season.
