Dragons Fall in Exhibition Play to Bison

FARGO, N.D. – Minnesota State Moorhead men's basketball fell in exhibition action to North Dakota State on Thursday evening. The Bison controlled action in the Red River Hoops for Charity Presented by Gate City Bank, winning 101-69.

Moorhead would begin the contest with some stirring ball movement, leading to some excellent looks. Sam Hastreiter would open the scoring for the Dragons, canning an open three. MSUM would drain three long range shots through the first five minutes to carry a 13-8 advantage. Newcomers Timaris Brown and Isa El-Amin knocked down the three-pointers while Tysen Gerads added in four early points.

North Dakota State would respond, holding the Dragons scoreless and hitting on a 14-0 run to regain the lead, 20-13. Just ahead of the five-minute mark in the first half, Moorhead would trail by seven points after a three from Landin Hacker. With three minutes to go in the first half, North Dakota State had re-extended its lead to 12 points (34-22). At the break, the Bison led 45-29. Hastreiter led the Dragons with eight points while Brown added seven on 50 percent shooting.

Kabine Kaba would get the Dragons going in the second half, converting on and-one opportunity to cut the deficit to 15 points. North Dakota State would go on to extend their lead to 26 points from there as Moorhead went cold from the floor. Near the midway point of the second half, Moorhead trailed 72-44.

While the Dragons would put together a strong final stretch, the North Dakota State lead proved too insurmountable. The Bison claimed the game 101-69 as the freshman El-Amin led the Dragons with 15 points and seven assists. Hastreiter scored 10 points in his return to the Sanford Health Athletic Complex while Brown added 10 points of his own with seven rebounds.
