MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead volleyball will embark on a pivotal NSIC road trip this week. The Dragons take on sixth-ranked Wayne State on Friday at 6 p.m. before facing off with Augustana on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Live stats and video will be available at msumdragons.com. Moorhead is coming off a pair of home losses last week to Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State.
Last Time...Moorhead has already matched up with the Wildcats and Vikings this season. The Dragons vanquished Augustana in five sets on September 19, led by 16 kills from
Raiah Mandell. The Wildcats bested the Dragons in four sets on September 20 as
Mya Pfeifer led MSUM with 13 kills and four blocks.
Block-ua At It Again...Sophomore middle blocker
Leah Laqua has really blossomed into a defensive menace for the Dragons this season. Laqua tallied eight total blocks across two matches last weekend, including six blocks against Southwest Minnesota State. Of Laqua's six blocks against the Mustangs, five were logged as solo. So far this season, Laqua leads the Dragons with 47 total blocks.
Riess At 500...Sophomore
Brielle Riess totaled 15 kills in last weekend's matches, moving her career total to 509. Riess accomplished the feat in just 48 matches played for Moorhead. The Marshall, Minn., native has also logged 525 career digs with the Dragons.
On The Bubble...Heading into this important week of play, Moorhead sits in ninth place in the NSIC standings with the top eight teams making the league tournament. The Dragons have not qualified for an NSIC Volleyball Tournament since 2007.
