BISMARCK, N.D. – Minnesota State Moorhead soccer fell on the road to host UMary on Friday afternoon. The Marauders topped the Dragons, 4-0.
"Some simple mistakes cost us goals in the first half and after that, it's always a tough uphill battle to get back into games," said MSUM head soccer coach
Scott Forster. "Just when there was some positivity heading into the start of the second half, we conceded an early goal against the runoff plate. That took the wind out of our sails and deflated the hopes of a comeback."
Moorhead goalkeeper
Quinn Carter would make a trio of saves within the first 13 minutes of action. Redshirt senior
Brooklyn Broderick would look to get the Dragons into the scoring column, but a pair of shots would be just off target. Just ahead of the half hour mark, Carter would make her fourth save of the half, but the ensuing rebound resulted in a Marauder goal. The home team would score again not even three minutes later to take a two goal lead.
Throughout the remainder of the half, Carter would make two more saves keeping the count at 2-0 in favor of the Marauders. Mary would be quick to score out of the halftime locker room, scoring at 47:53 to extend the lead to three goals. Moorhead had their best chance just after the 60
-minute mark as
Sophie Thompson had a shot on net. The attempt was stalled by Marauder keeper Kadyn Dilger. Mary would score again before time expired, netting their fourth goal at 80:42. Carter had 12 saves in the match for Moorhead.
