SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Minnesota State Moorhead volleyball suffered a three-set loss to Augustana on Saturday evening.
Augustana would command the first set, building a six-point lead through the first 14 rallies. By the midway point of the set, Moorhead still trailed by six points (15-9). The home club would surge from there, building a lead as large as 10 points as the set neared a conclusion (21-11). The 10-point margin would hold as the Vikings claimed the set, 25-15.
MSUM would respond as the second set commenced, holding a two-point lead after back-to-back kills from
Jocelin Feutz. The senior would stamp another point not long after to keep the Dragons up one. Augustana would rally back from there, building a three-point lead to force a Dragon timeout. Moorhead would race out of the break, roaring back to tie the set at 13 thanks, in part, to a service ace from
Kiara Olesch. Augie would gather a three-point lead from there, but the MSUM defense kept the Dragons alive.
Maci Martini earned a solo block followed by a block assist from Feutz and
Mya Pfeifer. The defensive effort helped the Dragons get within a point, 17-16.
The defense only continued as
Leah Laqua would get in on the party. Laqua turned away a Viking attack to tie the set at 19 points. The teams would remain tied at 22 points before Augie made the final move. The Vikings scored on the final three rallies to win the set, 25-22.
Augustana would score the first four points of the third set before holding a two-point advantage (9-7). The Dragons would counter, tying the score at nine points with a kill from
Raiah Mandell. Augie would get control of the scoreboard at the midway point, leading 16-13 and forcing an MSUM timeout. Moorhead would whittle the deficit down two points after a kill from
Brielle Riess. Back-to-back kills from Martini later on knotted the score at 20 points. However, Augie would score the next four points and eventually take the set, 25-22.
