MSUM Falls in Final Dual of Regular Season to Mavericks

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead swimming saw their dual season come to a conclusion on Saturday afternoon inside Nemzek Pool. The visiting Minnesota State Mavericks defeated the Dragons, 157-83. 

The squads would begin the dual with an unconventional 8x50 medley relay with MSUM's team placing runner-up with a time of 3:42.80. Maggie Moore would begin the individual events with a win in the 200-yard freestyle. Moore marked a 1:58.18 to claim the win. Kelsey Jackson would be the top Dragon in the 50-yard backstroke, clocking a 29.23 to finish seventh,.

Freshman Rose Urick would see a runner-up finish in the 50-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 31.94. Urick would also finish second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.34. Linnea Edgren (1:13.82) would place sixth in the same event. Fernanda Leon would secure another Dragon event win, claiming a victory in the 100-yard fly with a time of 59.82. Leon would also place fifth in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:02.65. Sophia Verke would make it back-to-back wins for the Dragons, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.95. Demi-Lee Carlisle would place third in the same event, touching the wall at 25.16.

Verke would finish third in the 100-yard freestyle with a finishing time of 55.02 while Moore (55.73) placed sixth. Carlisle won the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 1:00.73 as Leon (1:02.01) finished just behind Carlisle. In the 500-yard freestyle, Cami Mayo was the top Dragon, touching the wall at 5:36.21. Ruth Pavelski would claim third place in the 50-yard fly, finishing with a time of 27.03.

MSUM's divers will now look towards the NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships in West Fargo, N.D. The meet runs from Wednesday February 12 until Saturday, February 15.
