Sam I Am: Hastreiter Leads Complete Effort over #23 Warriors

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- MSU Moorhead men's basketball extended their win streak to seven games on Friday night while collecting a crucial NSIC victory. The Dragons defeated 23rd-ranked Winona State, 71-57. 

Inside The Game
  • Similar to the first meeting between the two teams, MSUM came out of the gates hot with three triples from Logan Kinsey and Sam Hastreiter.
  • From there, Winona State would settle in, building a seven-point lead, 20-13, near the midway point of the first half. 
  • Another five quick points from Hastreiter would bring the Dragons back within two points. 
  • While Winona State would continue to retain a lead, MSUM would even the score after a three-pointer from Jacob Jennissen.
  • The teams would trade baskets down the stretch in the half before Shaun Wysocki closed the half with a challenging lay-up. 
  • MSUM led 34-32 at the half as Hastreiter scored 11 points with Jennissen adding in eight points. 
  • Logan Kinsey would kick off the second half with a triple to push the Dragon lead to five points. 
  • A three from Carson Johnson off an assist from Jacob Beeninga would have the Dragons up six points with 14 minutes to go. 
  • An and-one from Hastreiter kept the Dragons churning as the Warriors attempted to make a comeback.
  • Winona State would get to within two points before Beeninga sparked MSUM with a three-pointer. 
  • The latter stages of the game would see MSUM truly impose themselves in the contest, building a lead as large as 12 points with three minutes to play after another three from Beeninga. 
  • Beeninga would swish home his third triple of the half to provide the Dragon dagger as MSUM would go on to win, 71-57. 
  • Hastreiter was superb on both ends all evening, scoring 19 points with nine rebounds. Jennissen was sensational once again, scoring 14 points with eight rebounds.

Tonight's win marks the first time the Dragons have swept Winona St. in two NSIC regular season games since winning 87-63 Jan. 27, 1996 and 113-81 four weeks later on Feb. 24.
