PITTSBURG, Kan. – MSU Moorhead fell in a doubleheader to (RV) Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon.
The Gorillas won the first game in five innings, 12-1 before scoring a 9-1 run rule win in game two.
Game One
The Gorillas would score a quick two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a lead.
Teagan Clemmons would get on base with a single in the second and would make it to third base before the frame ended without a run. Pittsburg State would capitalize, scoring four runs on five hits in the home half to lead 6-0.
Natalie Gonzalez would get the Dragons on the board in the next half inning with a solo home run to center field. The Gorillas would again pile up runs in the home half, scoring six runs on four hits and a Dragon error. MSUM would not be able to score again through five innings as the Gorillas won, 12-1.
Game Two
Both offenses would be held in check in the first inning with neither team mustering a hit. In the home half of the second inning, Pitt State would score three runs on a home run to lead 3-0. From there, the Gorillas would score three more runs in the inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
Gonzalez would try to get the Dragons going in the fourth inning, finding base on a single. The senior would score on a wild pitch to have the count at 6-1. Neither team would score until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Gorillas plated three runs to invoke the run rule. The Gorillas would win 9-1.
