Dragons Fall in Central Region Championship to Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. – MSU Moorhead men's basketball saw the 2024-25 season come to a close on Tuesday evening. The Dragons fell short in the NCAA Central Region Championship to host Washburn, 93-65.

Both teams would start out hot from the field with Logan Kinsey drilling a three-pointer to open the contest. However, Washburn showcased their potent offensive ability, making their first seven field goal attempts. Of those seven shots, four of them came from behind the three-point arc. The Ichabods would build a lead as large as 10 points seven minutes into the game. Another three from Kinsey helped enliven the Dragon offense. Washburn would again extend their lead to 11 points with eight minutes to play.

Carson Johnson and JaMir Price would do their best to get the Dragons back into the game late in the half, sinking triples to get MSUM within five points (38-33). Johnson would hit back-to-back triples with under two to go to have the Dragons within four points late. Washburn would lead 47-41 at the break after shooting 56.2 percent from the field in the half.

The Ichabods would come out of the locker room hot again, extending their lead out to 12 points three minutes into the second half. Washburn would only continue to grow their lead from there, leading 81-51 with eight minutes to play. The lead proved too much for the Dragons to overcome with Washburn eventually winning 93-65. Johnson led MSUM with 17 points while Kinsey and Shaun Wysocki added in 10 points each.
