Dragons Cap Regular Season in Victory Over Golden Eagles

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – MSU Moorhead tennis finished the regular season on a high note on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons officially qualified for the NSIC Tennis Tournament with a 5-2 win over Minnesota Crookston.

MSUM would again capitalize in doubles play, securing the team point for the second time this weekend. The pairing of Luzmary Diaz Castillo and Shaelyn Johnson would secure their 15th win of the season, defeating Ariadna Solis Guals and Daniela de Lucas Rivera, 6-1. For the duo, it ties the single-season school record for double victories heading into the NSIC Tournament. The Dragons earned the team point after Katryna Hansen and Claire Nemmers defeated Kavya Singh and Nadia Cases Mundet, 6-3. It is the duo's 10th win of the season.

Singles action would see Johnson earn her 14th win of the season after defeating de Luca Rivera in straight sets. However, it did not come without challenge as Johnson needed a 7-2 tiebreak win in the second set to secure the match. After Luzmary Diaz Castillo won via forfeit, MSUM was one team point shy of capturing the dual. At number three singles, Hansen would look sharp in the first set against Solis Guals, winning 6-4. The sophomore fell in the second set, but would fire back with a resounding 6-0 win in set three. Tiannah Gu would put the finishing touches on the dual win for the Dragons, securing a straight sets win over Blaike Zander at number five singles. The victory is Gu's 15th of the season, which brings her one shy of the single-season school record of 16.
