Dragons Welcome Wayne State Wildcats for NSIC Bout

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead football will look to move to 4-0 for the first time since 1985 on Saturday in a noon bout with the Wayne State Wildcats.

Matchup History...The Wildcats have owned the most recent matchups in the series, carrying a four-game winning streak over the Dragons heading into Saturday. Wayne State spoiled MSUM's home opener last season, defeating the Dragons, 44-17. Outside of last season's tilt, the programs have been close on the scoreboard. Prior to 2024, the last three meetings between the two schools came down to one score. Moorhead last defeated the Wildcats on October 13, 2018, in a 28-22 overtime thriller in Wayne, America.

Three For Three...For Three...Senior wide receiver Brady Perryman was electric in MSUM's 45-21 win over Winona State on Saturday. Perryman reeled in five catches for 124 yards and three touchdowns. The Cottage Grove, Minn., native led the NSIC with 18 points scored a week ago while also eclipsing 2,000 career receiving yards. Perryman's three touchdowns moved his career total to 31, which ties the school record held by Adam Jiskra. For his efforts, Perryman was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week. It is the third straight week a Dragon has been noted by the conference. 

That's Mr. Florence To You...Senior wide receiver Gage Florence is closing in on numerous records heading into Saturday. Currently, Florence is just two receptions shy of resetting the all-time NSIC record held by Danny Kittner (291). Additionally, Florence is just 33 yards short of resetting the MSUM all-time record for receiving yards, which is currently held by Damon Gibson (3,112). The Sawyer, N.D., native moved his career receptions total to 328 last week against Winona State. That number is now the second-most in the history of NCAA Division II.

A Nose For The Rock...Sophomore Jack Johnson has excelled in his role as a dual-position player for the Dragon defense. Johnson was all over the field in Saturday's win over Winona State, compiling six tackles, a tackle for loss as well as a pair of pass breakups. So far this season, Johnson leads the Dragons with four pass breakups. 

Kickin' It With Watson...Sophomore kicker Max Watson dazzled last week against Winona State. The Fargo, N.D., product connected on all six of his PATs while also drilling a 46-yard field goal. The make ties Watson's career best and currently stands as the longest field goal in the NSIC this season. 

Ground Game Gets Going...Moorhead was able to effectively run the ball in Saturday's win over Winona State. Sophomore back Tyson Brandt led the charge with 88 yards and a score on nine carries. Quarterback Jack Strand also rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown in the victory.

Check The Leaderboard...Through three weeks of the regular season, MSUM has the third-best scoring offense in NCAA Division II (46.7 PPG). The Dragons also lead the nation in passing offense (379.7 YPG) and are 15th in total offense (461 YPG) so far this season. Jack Strand is second in the nation in overall passing yardage (1,027) and leads the country with 15 passing touchdowns. 

Do You See The RV?...Moorhead was noted as 'receiving votes' in this week's AFCA Coaches' Poll, earning seven nods. It is the first time ever a Dragon outfit has been noted in an AFCA poll.
