Dragon Volleyball Set for Bouts with Mustangs, Cougars

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead volleyball continues the NSIC slate this weekend in a pair of road meetings with Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls. The Dragons take on the eighth-ranked Mustangs on Friday at 6 p.m. before matching up with the Coo on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Live video and stats will be available at msumdragons.com. Moorhead saw a strong start to conference action, going 2-1 across a three-match homestand. The Dragons defeated Augustana in five sets last Friday before falling to nationally-ranked Wayne State on Saturday. MSUM rebounded from the loss, defeating Minnesota Crookston in four sets on Tuesday evening. 

The Dragons have offered up a balanced offensive attack, led by 136 kills from junior Raiah Mandell. The Mounds View, Minn., native also bolsters an impressive .337 hitting percentage for the season as well. Additionally, Brielle Riess (121) and Jocelin Feutz (102) have each tallied 100 or more kills so far in 2025. Riess has been dangerous behind the service line as well with a team-leading 21 aces. Both Maci Martini and Amanda Lisi have each totaled 11 service aces as well in 2025. As a collective, MSUM is hitting a solid .262 on the attack. Junior Madi Colby and the aforementioned Lisi help facilitate the offense, tallying 467 assists between them this year. In Tuesday's win over Minnesota Crookston, Lisi registered her 2,000th career collegiate assists (between MSUM and Lincoln Memorial). 

Defensively, Martini (162) and Riess (141) lead the Dragons in the digs category with Riess bolstering an impressive seven double-doubles. Heading into Friday's match with the Mustangs, Riess has a streak of three double-doubles. Feutz has been sharp in the blocking category for the Dragons with a team-best 25 total blocks in 2025. Sophomore Mya Pfeifer has also tallied 22 total blocks while Leah Laqua has turned away 16 total attacks. 

Kari Thompson is in her third season as MSUM's head volleyball coach.
