"This event is a true collaboration between all entities at MSUM to create unforgettable experiences for our students and community," said athletic director
Chad Markuson. "It's amazing to see everyone jumping in to help create the best stage for our athletes and experience for our supporters. Really showcasing what makes a Dragons game different than anywhere else."
The genesis for the event began with the Campus Vibrancy Team whose task is identifying strategic events on campus and amplifying them into traditions the entire community looks forward to every year. This group is comprised of university employees in the Office of Student Activities, Marketing & Communications, Athletics, Housing, First Year Programs, Dean of Students Office, Foundation, and more to help each other promote and execute these signature events. The first event this year was the
'Fire and Ice: Winter Celebration of the Arts' which featured amazing faculty and student demonstrations paired with chainsaw ice carving, fire dancers, costumed carolers, and more. The focus for the Spring semester event was identifying a key men's and women's basketball double-header.
The name 'Noize Night' is a nod to the 2010-2011 Student Organization of the Year, the Nemzek Noize pep-club and pep-band, who showed the impact of what determined students can do to change the culture of Dragons supporting Dragons at MSUM. Their work spurred the University to start a formal pep-band and began the focus of creating an entertaining and intimate game day atmosphere. Starting up the crowd that night, a Nemzek Noize alum will start a new tradition by cranking the "Noizemaker" siren to get the fans ready to get loud for their Dragons. The Nemzek Noize logo on the free t-shirts is their original mark handmade by MSUM students.
"It's really cool to see something like Nemzek Noize, the idea behind that group, come back now to build off what they started," said associate athletics director and former Nemzek Noize advisor Jon Wepking. "There is new life on campus, new support for each other, and it's time for all of us to be proud of what we can do here at MSUM and share in that experience. Momentum is a powerful thing and we've got it. It's hard to get going but once it happens, events and experiences like these are one way we can continue to build on top of it."
