Dragons Back at Nemzek to Battle Vikings, Wildcats

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead women's basketball returns home for a pair of NSIC matchups this weekend. The Dragons host cross-divisional games with Augustana at 7:30 p.m. on Friday before playing Wayne State on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. 

Live video and stats will be available at msumdragons.com. Fans can watch the contests on the Dragon Digital Network with Steve d'Eustachio on play-by-play and Jared Bledsoe on commentary. Saturday's game can also be listened to on AM 1100/FM 92.3 with Jace Denman and Greg Burd on the call. 

Matchup History...The Dragons carry a three-game winning streak over the Vikings into Friday's contest. Moorhead defeated the Vikings inside Nemzek Fieldhouse a season ago, 57-43. However, the teams have been relatively even over the last decade or so with MSUM winning 11 games to Augie's 10 over the last 21 meetings. The Vikings hold a small edge in the all-time series, winning 19 games to MSUM's 14. The teams first played on November 23, 1990, with the Vikings winning 96-59. Against the Wildcats, Moorhead holds a five-game winning streak, most recently a 57-50 win in the NSIC Tournament first round a season ago. In total, MSUM has claimed nine of the last 10 games against Wayne State dating back to February 5, 2016. Moorhead holds a slight advantage in the all-time series, holding a 24-21 record against the Wildcats. The two programs first met on January 10, 1996 with the Dragons claiming a 75-62 victory. 

Terry Watch...After a pair of double figure scoring outputs last weekend, senior forward Terryn Johnson sits at 928 career points entering this week. Johnson scored 11 points against Concordia-St. Paul on Friday before netting 10 points against Winona State. The Kindred, N.D., native also sits 12 rebounds shy of 700 for her career. Saturday's game against Winona State was Johnson's 100th career game played for the Dragons. For her career, Johnson has shot 52.7 percent from the floor. 

All-Around Ashton...Sophomore point guard Ashton Safranski had another box score-stuffing weekend for Moorhead. Safranski averaged 14.5 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals across MSUM's two games. This was highlighted by 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists against Winona State. Safranski's point total matched her career high with the Fargo, N.D., product shooting 60 percent for the game. Against Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, Safranski scored seven points, but filled the stat sheet with six rebounds, six assists and five steals. 

We Need To Talk About Cay...Sophomore wing Caylin Kelly continues to make the most of her minutes for the Dragons. Kelly averaged double figures again last weekend, clipping 14 points a contest for MSUM. The Clark, S.D., native scored 15 points with six rebounds in the victory over Concordia-St. Paul on Friday. Kelly would net 13 points against Winona State on Saturday. For the weekend, Kelly shot 50 percent from the floor. Kelly has scored 10 or more points in five of the last six games for Moorhead, averaging 11.8 points per game. 

Un-Lishka...Sophomore post Ayelishka Teko-Folly saw a breakout performance against Winona State on Saturday. Teko-Folly scored nine points to go along with six rebounds. The Rosemount, Minn., native made her first four shot attempts of the game, completing the contest with a 66.6 percent shooting clip. 

Defense Making An Impact...While the Dragons own the fourth-best scoring defense in the Northern Sun (65.7), they are also one of the conference's top teams as far as forcing turnovers. Moorhead has forced 236 turnovers so far this season and owns the NSIC's second-best turnover margin. The Dragons are plus-3.93 in that category.
