MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead men's basketball was engaged in an offensive battle with visiting Augustana on Friday evening. The Vikings won the high-scoring affair, 106-99.
How It Happened
- Both teams were dialed in to open the first half with Augustana holding a narrow 11-7 lead in the early going.
- The Dragons would work back to tie the score at 17 points thanks to back-to-back threes from Dominic Gooden and Levi Birkholz
- Despite MSUM shooting effectively from long range, the Vikings would hold a lead as large 10 points midway through the half.
- Throughout the remainder of the half, Moorhead would get as close as five points, but Augie would lead 58-51 at the break.
- The Dragons connected on 10 three-pointers in the half, but the Vikings would shoot a whopping 77.4 percent from the floor through 20 minutes.
- Isa El-Amin would help guide the Dragons back on the scoreboard, evening the count at 64 points early in the second half.
- While Augustana would continue to hold a narrow lead, the Dragons would work the ball down low to Rodrick Payne.
- Payne would give the Dragons an 84-83 lead with just over seven minutes to play.
- Augustana would respond, building a seven-point advantage with under four minutes to go in the game.
