WEST FARGO, N.D. -- Minnesota State Moorhead swimming & diving began competition at the annual Dragon Invite on Friday evening. After one day of action, Moorhead sits in second place as a team with 392 points.
The 200-yard medley relay would begin the action as MSUM's team of
Kelsey Jackson,
Rose Urick,
Ruth Pavelski and
Sophia Verke would grab an event win. The quarter swam a time of 1:51.43 for the victory. The Dragon team of
Lacie Stark,
Cami Mayo,
Fernanda Leon and
Maggie Moore would place fourth behind a time of 1:55.21. MSUM would also earn a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay to conclude the evening with the team of Verke, Pavelski,
Tresa Baumgard and Moore would clock a 1:40.19.
Jackson would lead the Dragons in the 200-yard backstroke, placing third with a time of 2:11.26. Urick would guide Moorhead in the 200-yard backstroke, placing fourth behind a mark of 2:33.72.
Anika Grunenwald would place third in the 1000-yard freestyle, marking a season best time of 11:39.90. Mayo would place fifth in the same race with a time of 12:02.17. Leon would earn runner-up marks in the 100-yard fly, pacing a 59.36 with Pavelski finishing third behind a time of 1:00.87. Moore would earn a fifth-place finish in the same race, marking a season best 1:02.53.
The Dragons would command diving action with
Isabelle Johnson winning 1-meter competition. Johnson earned an overall score of 379.10 with
Zoe Bjerke claiming runner-up marks with a score of 377.50.
Kennedy Olson placed fourth with a score of 342.70 while
Ruth Guy earned a seventh-place finish with a score of 326.10.
The Dragon Invite continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. with a final session scheduled for 4 p.m.
