Moorhead Set for Important Week of NSIC Bouts

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead men's basketball will look to find a home groove this weekend in NSIC play. The Dragons take on St. Cloud State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before battling Minnesota State as a part of Noize Night on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Live video and stats will be available at msumdragons.com. Fans can watch the contests on the Dragon Digital Network with Steve d'Eustachio on play-by-play and Jared Bledsoe on commentary. Saturday's game can also be listened to on AM 1100/FM 92.3 with Jace Denman and 'Big Game' James McCarty on the call.

Matchup History...The Dragons have enjoyed success in recent meetings with the Huskies, holding a 10-game winning streak over SCSU heading into Friday. In their last meeting, Moorhead would claim a 104-98 double overtime win thanks to 42 points from Carson Johnson. The Huskies last defeated the Dragons on February 15, 2019, topping MSUM 94-88 inside Nemzek Fieldhouse. Of the last 10 games, MSUM has won five inside the friendly confines in Moorhead. Since the 2008-09 season, the Dragons are 19-9 against the Huskies. In the 10-game win streak, Moorhead has outscored SCSU 825-723 for a 102-point differential. The Dragons hold the most recent victory in their series with the Mavericks, defeating Minnesota State 81-55 a season ago. In total, the teams have split the last eight meetings with one another dating back to the 2019-20 season. However, two of those contests came during postseason play. Minnesota State holds the lead in the all-time series 69-36. The two teams first met during the 1932-33 season with the Mavericks defeating the Dragons, 37-28.

Isa Checking In...True freshman point guard Isa El-Amin turned in a strong pair of games for Moorhead last weekend. Against Southwest Minnesota State, El-Amin scored a team-high 15 points with two assists and two steals. El-Amin would drop in another team-high 24 points against Sioux Falls on Saturday. The Minnetonka, Minn., native also had four assists and another pair of steals against the Cougars. El-Amin leads the Dragons in both assists (74) and steals (30) so far this season.

Shoss Is Scoring...Senior forward Sam Hastreiter found his offensive groove against Sioux Falls on Saturday. Hastreiter scored 18 points on 57.1 percent shooting. The Lincoln, Neb., native also connected on two of three long range attempts in the game. Hastreiter is third on the Dragon roster in scoring average (11.8) with 11 double figure scoring efforts so far this season.

A Pleasant Surprise...True freshman Sam Hondl has taken on a larger scoring role since entering the starting lineup. Hondl scored 11 points against Southwest Minnesota State on Friday before adding nine points against Sioux Falls. Since entering the starting lineup on December 20, Hondl is averaging eight points per game on 65.7 percent (23-35) shooting from the floor.

Grind Time With Jenks...Big man Adam Jenkins has done a little bit of everything for Moorhead so far this season. Jenkins saw a nice game against Sioux Falls on Saturday, scoring nine points and snaring seven rebounds. Despite only playing roughly 16 minutes per game, Jenkins is fourth on the Dragon roster with 73 total rebounds.

Concentrating On The Glass...MSUM has amplified their commitment to the boards over the last five games. The Dragons have a combined plus-28 margin on the glass in those contests. This includes a plus-10 margin against Southwest Minnesota State last Friday. Moorhead is ranked third in the Northern Sun in that category, holding a plus-3 margin overall this season.

Jason Kemp is in his first season as MSUM's head men's basketball coach.
