MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead men's basketball did not have the answer for visiting Minnesota State on Saturday evening. The Mavericks beat the Dragons, 82-66.
How It Happened
- Moorhead would begin the game on an 8-1 run thanks to four points from Adam Jenkins, including a thunderous slam.
- Minnesota State would quickly close the deficit, eventually leading 11-10, but five straight points from Kabine Kaba had MSUM back in front by three points.
- The teams would trade the lead as the half reached a midway point with the Mavericks holding a 30-25 lead with five minutes to play.
- While Jenkins continued to score off some nice facilitating from Isa El-Amin, Minnesota State would carry a 39-33 lead into the locker room.
- While the Mavericks would push their lead into double digits early in the second half, Moorhead would respond.
- A triple from Eddie Beeninga had Moorhead within four points (48-44) with 15 minutes to play.
- The Mavs would heat up from three near the midway stretch of the half, which helped them build a 17-point advantage.
- Minnesota State only continued to surge as crunch time loomed as the Mavericks led 74-54 with five minutes remaining.
- The Maverick lead would be as large as 24 points, but MSUM would whittle it down to 16 points before the final buzzer.
- MSU would claim a 82-66 win with Jenkins leading the Dragons with a career-high 16 points and four rebounds.
