MSUM Falls in Final Dual of Regular Season

MANKATO, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead swimming & diving wrapped the 2025-26 dual season on Saturday afternoon, visiting 16th-ranked Minnesota State. The Mavericks defeated the Dragons, 189-103. 

The 200-yard medley relay would begin the meet as the Dragon team of Kelsey Jackson, Rose Urick, Ruth Pavelski and Sophia Verke would place fourth behind a time of 1:51.67. To conclude the meet, MSUM's 200-yard freestyle team of Maggie Moore, Tresa Baumgard, Ruth Pavelski and Sophia Verke would place third with a mark of 1:42.79. 

Freshman Anika Grunenwald would lead the Dragons in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 11:53.50 for a fourth-place finish. Moore would finish runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle, marking a 2:00.86 while Pavelski (2:03.22) placed third overall. Moore would also place sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, swimming a 56.06. The junior Jackson would lead MSUM's efforts in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming.a 59.69 for runner-up honors. Jackson also finished runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke, marking a 2:11.70. 

Rose Urick would be Moorhead's top finisher in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a 1:10.23 for a fifth-place finish. Urick also led the Dragons in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing runner-up at 2:33.95. Fernanda Leon would begin her afternoon with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard fly, swimming a 2:11.80. Leon would later collect an event victory in the 200-yard IM, swimming a 2:16.42 with Jackson placing fifth at 2:22.32. Leon also placed third in the 100-yard fly, swimming a 1:00.63. Verke would lead MSUM in the 50-yard freestyle, earning a finishing time of 25.59 with Moore placing fifth at 25.80. 

In 1-meter diving, Isabelle Johnson would finish third overall with a score of 246.70 as Zoe Bjerke finished behind Johnson with a count of 243.40. Johnson would place runner-up in 3-meter competition, tallying a score of 253.15. Bjerke placed third behind a score of 249.90.

The Dragons will now prepare for the NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships which are scheduled for February 11-14 at Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, N.D.
