Dragons Hit the Road Again for Battles with CSP, WSU

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead men's basketball hits the road again this weekend for a pair of NSIC cross-divisional bouts. The Dragons take on Concordia-St. Paul on Friday beginning at 5:30 p.m. before wrapping the weekend against Winona State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Matchup History...The Dragons and Golden Bears met up in non-conference action on November 30 with CSP claiming a 111-108 overtime shootout with Moorhead. Isa El-Amin led the Dragons with 21 points and five assists in the game. In the last 10 matchups between the two, MSUM has claimed six of those games, including a 92-85 win inside Gangelhoff Center last season. The Dragons bolster a four-game win streak over the Warriors heading into Saturday. All four of those wins came during the 2024-25 season. Moorhead is 7-3 in the last 10 matchups against Winona State.

Cookin' With Sam...Senior forward Sam Hastreiter helped pace the Dragons in a 92-81 win over Minnesota Crookston on Saturday. Hastreiter scored 28 points on over 60 percent shooting while also collecting eight rebounds. The scoring effort for Hastreiter is a new collegiate best. Hastreiter was named the NSIC North Division Player of the Week for his efforts. 

The Payne Center...Senior post Rodrick Payne was a problem for Minnesota Crookston last Saturday. The Dragons used post touches to get Payne involved all afternoon with the Cottage Grove, Minn., native scoring 21 points on 58.3 percent shooting. Payne also nabbed eight rebounds and three assists in the Dragon victory. 

Hello Hacker...Senior guard Landin Hacker turned in a needed scoring outburst in the second half against Minnesota Crookston. The Greenwood, Ind., native scored nine massive points for Moorhead in the final 20 minutes of action. The senior showed his prowess for the long ball, knocking in a pair of triples in the effort. 

Isa Dips And Dives...True freshman Isa El-Amin turned in another strong performance for the Dragons against Minnesota Crookston. The true freshman netted 12 points in the victory, but was a key facilitator in the Dragon offense. El-Amin dished out six assists in the victory. The Minnetonka, Minn., native has a team-high 44 assists so far this season. 

It's Tim Time...Senior Timaris Brown made a major impact in the first half against Minnesota Crookston. The senior would get downhill and score a needed seven points for the Dragons to help preserve their lead. 

Charity Stripe Talk...The Dragons continue to earn trips to the foul line, leading to vital points. MSUM has also been one of the conference's most effective teams at the charity stripe. Moorhead owns the NSIC's top free throw shooting percentage at 76.1 percent. However, MSUM is fourth in the league in free throws made (232) and eighth in overall attempts (305). 

Top Offense...After scoring 92 points against Minnesota Crookston last Saturday, MSUM continues to lead the NSIC in overall offense. The Dragons average 86.1 points per game to lead the conference. Winona State is just behind the Dragons in that category, averaging 84.1 points per game. Moorhead has scored 90 or more points seven different times this season.
