MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Sophomore quarterback Drew Huebner and junior midfielder Sophie Thompson have been named the Minnesota State Moorhead Athletes of the Month presented by Buffalo Wild Wings for the months of August/September 2026. 

Huebner has burst onto the scene in impressive fashion through five games for MSUM. The Morris, Minn., native has passed for 1,071 yards and 11 touchdowns entering Moorhead's contest with Minot State this Saturday. Huebner also leads the Dragons on the ground, toting the ball 76 times for 418 yards and another six touchdowns. The sophomore began his season in style against Northern Michigan on August 27, passing for 265 yards and four touchdowns. Huebner also had 104 yards rushing, including a 73-yard touchdown scamper. The following week, Huebner passed for 240 yards with five total touchdowns in a victory over Concordia-St. Paul. Huebner would score three more times on the ground against Sioux Falls on September 12 before racking up 250 yards of offense against Augustana on September 19. The quarterback concluded his September with 197 yards passing and the game-winning touchdown throw in an upset win over #13 Minnesota Duluth. 

Thompson has begun her junior campaign with plenty of offensive firepower for the Dragons. Through nine matches this season, Thompson has already logged six points, including two goals and a pair of assists. The Auckland, New Zealand, native has played a total of 705 minutes for the Dragons this season with eight starts. Thompson began her season logging an assist in MSUM's draw with Montana State Billings on September 3. The junior would enter the scoring column a few weeks later against Wayne State on September 11. Thompson had a dazzling goal that proved to be the game-winner against the Wildcats. She would score her second goal in three matches the following week, converting on a penalty kick to help the Dragons earn a draw with Sioux Falls. To conclude the month, Thompson sparked a remarkable corner kick goal from Mary Cox against Northern State on September 27.
