SHAWNEE, Kan. – Minnesota State Moorhead softball concluded action at the Midwest College Classic on Saturday and Sunday. The Dragons dropped their final three contests at the tournament.
On Saturday, MSUM was defeated by Central Missouri (9-1) and Missouri Southern (8-0). The Dragons wrapped the tournament in a loss to Central Oklahoma (5-0).
Jennies 9, Dragons 1
Central Missouri would hold the Dragons without a run in the top of the first inning despite a single from
Loie Moore. The Jennies would score two runs in the home half before
Riley Dunne helped cut the deficit in half. The true freshman would hit her first collegiate home run to leadoff the second inning to make the score 2-1.
That score would remain through four and a half innings before Central Missouri scored two more runs on three hits. After holding the Dragons without a hit in the fifth, the Jennies would tally four more runs to stretch their lead to seven runs. Moorhead would be held without a hit again in the sixth inning before the Jennies led off the bottom half with a solo home run. The homer concluded the game in six innings with Central Missouri winning, 9-1.
Lions 8, Dragons 0
The Dragons would tally three hits from
Courtney Locke,
Kayla Roidt and
Teagan Pranchke across the first two frames, but would be unable to score a run. Missouri Southern would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly. With Moorhead held without a hit in the top of the third, the Lions would plate seven runs on five hits in the home half. This included a grand slam to make the score 8-0.
Moorhead would have a chance to keep the game alive in the top of the fifth inning after Locke earned a two-out double. After
Lexie Wilson was hit by a pitch, MSUM had two on with two outs. However, Missouri Southern would get out of the jam to secure an 8-0 victory in five innings.
Brochos 5, Dragons 0
Both teams would be without a hit entering the second inning before Central Oklahoma gained a slight edge. The Bronchos used a two-run home run in the top of the second to gain the lead. Moorhead would be held without a hit until the third inning when
Riley McKeever and Moore earned singles. Despite the two runners on, MSUM would not push anything across in the frame.
Central Oklahoma would plate an additional three runs in the top of the fourth to lead by five runs. The Dragons would have a chance to score in the bottom of the fifth after
Kayla Roidt earned a leadoff walk.
Lacey Camden would steal second as a pinch runner for Roidt but would stay stranded at second base. The game was called after the fifth inning due to heavy rain and hail.

MSUM (1-12) returns to MIAA country next weekend for a 10-game swing across Kansas and Missouri. The Dragons open up the stretch against Pittburg State in a doubleheader scheduled for March 6 at 2 p.m.
