SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Minnesota State Moorhead senior 141-pounder Pedro Velazquez saw his collegiate wrestling career come to a close on Friday as part of the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

The Victoria, Minn., native was placed in the pigtail match of the 141-pound bracket, opening his morning with a 9-0 major decision loss to Kieran Thompson of Adams State. Velazquez would turn in a gritty effort to try and keep his season alive against sixth-seeded James Wright of Central Missouri. Velazquez would collect a quick 3-0 lead in the first period on a takedown. Midway through the third period, Velazquez led 4-2 after an escape at 1:20. However, Wright would secure a match-winning takedown with 16 seconds remaining to steal the match, 5-4. 

Velazquez finished the season with a 17-8 overall record, including six wins via major decision.
