MSUM Bested by Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Minnesota State Moorhead softball took to the road for an NSIC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons fell to Augustana in both contests.

Game One

Moorhead's offense would pick up immediately as Teagan Pranchke and Sami Macchiaroli earned base hits to open the contest. MSUM would later load the bases with no outs, scoring a run on a Viking error. Augustana would answer in the home half, scoring two runs on two hits to take a one-run lead.

The Dragons would be kept hitless in the second inning as the Vikings would score three runs on four hits to push their lead to four runs. Augustana would plate two more runs in the third frame to lead 7-1. Courtney Locke would lead off the fourth inning with a single, scoring two at-bats later after a single from Kayla Roidt. After four frames, Augustana led 7-2.

Pranchke would help the Dragons collect another run in the top of the fifth, earning a leadoff double. After the senior stole third base, Macchiaroli would drive Pranchke home to bring MSUM within four runs. Moorhead would threaten again in the sixth inning, loading the bases with just one out. Pranchke would drive home a run on a fielder's choice to make the score 7-4 in favor of the Vikings. Augustana would hold the Dragons without a hit in the final half inning to win by the same scoreline.

Game Two

Both teams would be held scoreless in the first inning with the first Dragon hit coming off the bat of Macchiaroli. Augie would score five runs on five hits in the home half of the second inning to help create a cushion. MSUM would get one back in the top of the third inning after Macchiaroli collected another single. Riley McKeever and Locke would single across the next two at-bats to drive Macchiaroli in.

The Vikings would provide a game response again in the home half, scoring four more runs on five hits to lead 9-1. Augustana would tack on an additional run in the fourth frame on a solo home run. Moorhead would be held hitless in the top of the fifth inning as the Vikings claimed a 10-1 victory in five innings.
