MSUM Blanked by #21 Warriors

WINONA, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead softball dropped a pair of conference games with 21st-ranked Winona State on Saturday.

Game One

Winona State would add two runs to their tally in the bottom of the first inning. While Lexie Wilson would work out a leadoff walk in the second frame, MSUM would not advance the senior past first base. The Warriors would break the game open in the home half, scoring five runs on three hits to lead, 7-0.

The home team would add a run in the third inning on two hits while keeping the Dragons out of the hit column. Winona State would score two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth to stretch their lead to 10 runs. That lead would hold true through five frames as Warrior starter Izzy Howe pitched a no-hitter with two walks and a hit by pitch.

Game Two

The Dragons would remain without a hit after the first inning of action in game two. Winona State would continue to showcase its offense, plating three runs on two hits (and two errors) in the home half of the first. Courtney Locke would earn MSUM's first hit of the series in the top of the second. However, Locke would not move past second base in the inning.

Winona State's three-run lead would hold after four innings before the Dragons threatened. Morgan Kingsbury and Loie Moore would earn hits, helping give MSUM a runner in scoring position. However, Moorhead's threat would be neutralized before the Dragons could score. The Warriors would score a run on two hits in the bottom half of the fifth.

The Warriors would claim game two by the 4-0 scoreline with Brynna Farman logging a quality start. Farman pitched a complete game, surrendering just two earned runs with three strikeouts.
