MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Minnesota State Moorhead football is set to take to the road for the first time in 2026 this weekend. The Dragons matchup with the Sioux Falls Cougars on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

Midco Sports Plus will be the official streaming home of MSUM athletics. Fans can also listen to the game live on AM 1100/FM 92.3 with 'Big Game' James McCarty and Jace Denman on the call. Moorhead moved to 2-0 in 2026 after a 48-30 home victory over Concordia-St. Paul last Thursday. 

Matchup History...It has been nearly three full calendar years since the Dragons and Cougars last met on the same field. Moorhead won the last matchup between the two on October 14, 2023. On that Homecoming day, MSUM secured a 53-40 victory over the Coo. To this day, the game serves as one of the most unique statistical performances in program history. MSUM won the game (and scored 53 points) despite holding possession for less than 17 minutes (16:37). Sioux Falls ran a total of 105 plays in the game compared to MSUM's 48. Saturday's meeting will be just the sixth all-time between the two schools. The Cougars had claimed the previous five meetings before the 2023 season. Moorhead has not played a game at Bob Young Field in Sioux Falls since September 10, 2016. 

Huebner Heat...Sophomore quarterback Drew Huebner was one of the NSIC's top offensive performers in week one. Huebner led the league in total offense versus Concordia-St. Paul, tallying 339 yards. The Morris, Minn., native passed for 240 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 99 yards and an additional two touchdowns. 

Kalen And Kelly LIVE...Moorhead had its two top wideouts show out again in the 48-30 victory over Concordia-St. Paul. Senior Kelly Johnson led the way through the air, snagging nine receptions for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns. This included a 35-yard long, the longest pass play of the game. Sophomore Kalen Lucas was again a reliable option on the boundary, making five receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown. In two games this season, Johnson and Lucas have combined for 29 receptions, 342 yards and six touchdowns.

Grading Out...Through two games this season, MSUM holds the NSIC's most high-powered offense. Moorhead leads the Northern Sun in both points per game (44.5) and passing efficiency (172.1). The Dragons are fourth in the conference in total offense per game (458.5). MSUM's pass efficiency clip is within the top 20 in the nation while the 44.5 points per game ranks 15th nationally. 

Disturbing The Peace...The Dragon defense has been incredibly disruptive through two contests in 2026. In the win over Concordia-St. Paul, MSUM tallied seven tackles for loss totaling 35 yards. Moorhead also had three sacks with one leading to a Dragon fumble recovery. In total, Moorhead has made 14 tackles for loss this season for an overall loss of 77 yards. The Dragon total sack count has reached seven after last Thursday as well. 

A True Specialist...Junior kicker Max Watson turned in six more PAT makes against Concordia-St. Paul. In his Dragon career, Watson has had eight games with six or more PAT conversions. Watson has scored 140 points in his MSUM career, including a school record 92 PAT conversions. 

Quick Scout...Sioux Falls has relied on its defense early in the season. The Cougars offer up the NSIC's best defensive unit in terms of opponent passing efficiency (87.2). Sioux Falls is second in the NSIC in scoring defense (12) and total defense (236.5). Quarterback Brock Brueck leads the Cougars in both rush (74) and pass (205) yards so far this season. Intended starter Tate Schafer missed last week's matchup with Jamestown.
