MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State Moorhead volleyball kept the home cooking rolling in NSIC action Saturday afternoon. The Dragons claimed three straight sets from the University of Mary.
Much like Friday evening, Moorhead would use an early run to spark action in the first set. With the frame tied at three points, MSUM would score the next eight points consecutively.
Brielle Riess kicked off the run with a kill before
Maci Martini stamped three straight spikes. Martini would have a total of four kills in the flurry as the Dragons led 11-3.
The Marauders would get back within six points before MSUM re-established a nine-point advantage.
Mya Pfeifer logged a kill before back-to-back points from
Raiah Mandell made the count 19-10. The Dragons would score the set's final three points thanks, in part, to kills from
Ava Wild and Pfeifer. The senior Pfeifer would close the set with a block solo as MSUM won 25-17.
With the teams trading points into the second set, Moorhead would gain an 11-5 lead.
Miracle Jensen scored back-to-back service aces to help earn the lead. In total, the Dragons would outscore the Marauders 10-1 to lead 16-6.
Brooke Bowen would add an ace of her own in the stretch. MSUM would dominate the set in totality, winning 25-9 as UMary had eight errors in the stanza.
A 9-4 lead would await the Dragons in the deciding third set as Martini, Wild and setter
Madi Colby logged kills. Another four-point surge from Moorhead would push the Dragon advantage to seven points. While the Marauders would answer with four straight points of their own, MSUM would have the correct response.
The Dragons would score seven straight points to regain a 20-10 lead. Martini and Riess would lead the offense in the tempest while
Ellie Keuseman provided a service ace. The 10-point lead proved to be too large for the Marauders to overcome. Moorhead would win the set 25-16 to secure the match. Martini led the Dragons with a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs behind a .308 hitting percentage. Pfeifer, Wild and Riess all scored six kills for the Dragons.

MSUM (9-4, 2-2 NSIC) is in for a split week of conference matches next week. The Dragons travel to take on Minnesota Crookston on Thursday before hosting Bemidji State on Sunday.
