BILLINGS, Mont. – Minnesota State Moorhead soccer dropped its non-conference finale on Saturday afternoon as part of the Rimrock Classic. The Dragons were bested by Black Hills State, 4-0.
The Yellow Jackets would log the only two shots through 10 minutes of action. Each chance was stopped by Dragon keeper
Emilia Bukholt Kristensen. Black Hills State would not stay silent much longer, converting on a chance just ahead of the 15-minute mark. A double assisted goal provided a 1-0 lead for the Yellow Jackets.
Moorhead would log its first threat off the foot of
Hanna Barthel, but the shot attempt would miss right. Black Hills State would tack on another goal in the 22
nd minute after a misplayed ball created an opportunity.
Sophie Thompson would attempt to split the deficit in half a few minutes later with the mark requiring a save from Yellow Jackets keeper Rian Barthel.
Sophomore
Avery Helm and Thompson would have shot attempts prior to the halftime whistle, but MSUM would be unable to net a score. Black Hills State carried a 2-0 lead into halftime. Both teams would be held in check offensively as the second period began. Freshman
Clara Butler would see a shot miss left late in the 53
rd minute. Butler would have another go four minutes later on a strong shot that was saved by Barthel.
Fellow freshman
Ellie Lommel would have a shot attempt miss right just ahead of the 70
th minute. Kristensen would make a save a few minutes later before the Yellow Jackets struck again. Black Hills State would take a three-goal lead after a score in the 72
nd minute. The Yellow Jackets would strike again in the 80
th minute to stretch their lead to four goals.
The 4-0 scoreline would hold through 90 minutes of action. Moorhead tallied 12 total shots in the match but finished with three shots on goal. Black Hills State was able to put seven of their 16 chances on net with Kristensen making three saves.

MSUM (1-1-1) begins NSIC play next weekend on the road. The Dragons are set to take on Wayne State on Friday at 3 p.m. before battling Augustana on Sunday at 1 p.m.
