Samantha Whitworth is in her second season as MSUM’s assistant softball coach.
Whitworth comes to Moorhead following a stint as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Saint Katherine during the 2023-24 season. She was primarily in charge of working with the pitchers for the Firebird program. The Firebirds twirled 18 complete games in 2024 and logged 247 innings pitched overall.
As a player, Whitworth enjoyed a solid career for University of Saint Katherine from 2020 to 2023. She started 36 career games for the Firebirds throughout her career for a total of 153 innings pitched. Whitworth struck out 60 batters in her career and logged 11 complete games. In 2022, Whitworth was named the program’s Champion of Character award winner. She was also a member of the Firebird team that claimed a Cal Pac Conference Tournament championship in 2021.
Prior to her career at Saint Katherine, Whitworth spent two seasons pitching for America River College (Sacramento, Calif.). While a member of the Beavers, Whitworth saw 31 starts in 42 appearances and was a team captain both seasons. She concluded her career with the Beavers with a 4.56 ERA. As a true freshman, Whitworth logged four complete games in 17 starts with 49 strikeouts and a save.
As a prep player for Alhambra High School, Whitworth was named an All-League Most Valuable Player, helping her team to three conference championships.
Whitworth gained her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Saint Katherine in 2022. She achieved her Masters in organizational leadership in 2024 from Saint Katherine.
