Chad Markuson has served, led and transformed many organizations at key moments in their existence. Chad’s focus on continuous improvement has led every organization he has associated with to new transformational accomplishments.
Markuson was named MSUM's Athletic Director on April 29, 2022, after serving as interim athletic director for more than a year.
Chad's focus is to be a servant leader for student-athletes, coaches, staff, the University and all related stakeholders. He has blazed trails both as a coach as well as administrator. He has served organizations such as the NCAA, NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference), MSUM (Minnesota State University Moorhead), Upper Iowa University, The Ridges Golf Course, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln HS and Assumption HS.
He has significant accomplishments that have been a direct result of his ability to cast a vision and work collaboratively and serve his organizations. Results include regionals, sectional and state HS championships, College conference and regional championships. Markuson has coached numerous All-Americans and Academic All-Americans, all-region and all-conference performers. He has served on two different five-year strategic planning committees for the NSIC and was the head coach on a transitioning athletic department from NCAA III to a NCAA II program. He also has lead over $3 million in facility upgrades at Minnesota State University Moorhead to include new field turf, lights, video board and office suites.
Markuson is serving in various leadership positions including serving for the NCAA on the women’s golf committee for five years, two of them being the chair. He currently serves on the Administrative Council, The University Facility, Grounds and Safety Committee at MSUM. He has directed the searches for head coaches, as well as administrative positions both within and outside the athletic department.
He has held university wide leadership roles as the chair of the Homecoming committee, played a key role in the organization of the universities largest one day fundraiser “Laps for the Long Run”. Most recently he was selected as one of five senior level athletic administrators in NCAA II to be part of the NCAA Pathway program.
Markuson has experience and knowledge is numerous functions of the athletic department to include revenue generation, licensing, sponsorship and donor cultivation, ticketing, concessions management, budget management, game operations, facilities, operations, compliance, human resources, staff evaluations.
Chad and his wife Heather have three beautiful daughters Kiley, Courtney and Maci.
