Reigning National Champions Down Dragons in Conference Action Saturday

| By:
DULUTH, Minn. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons visited the reigning NCAA DII National Champions Saturday.  The University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs held the Dragons to seven points while they scored a barrage of 76.

The Bulldogs' Chase Vogler threw his only airborne touchdown in the first play of the game, for forty yards to take the 7-0 lead with 18 seconds off the clock. The pass that was complete to D.J. Winfield set the tone for the game.

After a three-and-out drive for the Dragons, the Bulldogs scored again, taking 28 seconds to go up by two possessions. Isaac Odom scored his first of four touchdowns on the one yard carry. His second score of the game came at 10:16 in the first quarter off a 28 yard run.

Brad Foss, Vogler and Odom each scored a rushing touchdown on Duluth's way to setting a school record for points in a quarter, with 41, as the first quarter was seconds away from ending.

The Dragons only answer of the football game came with 16 seconds left in the first quarter as Zach Fry connected with Nick Scharpf at the MSUM 34-yard line and a long run of 66 yards erased the egg from the scoreboard.

After leading at intermission, 55-7, the Bulldogs racked up 21 more points in the second half. Odom led the Bulldogs with four touchdowns and 154 yards on eight carries. Vogler completed 9-of-13 pass attempts with 119 yards and a touchdown, but was more magnificent rushing as he had three touchdowns on five carries for 90 yards. Brad Foss rushed 12 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Fry finished the day with 187 yards, going 17-for-33 with three picks. Sophomore Bryson Pluta finished the game for the Dragons going 2-for-4 with nine yards. Scharpf led the receivers with 84 yards on four catches. Joe Johnson also had seven catches for 66 yards on the afternoon.

The Dragons suffered their fourth loss of the season, their second on the road. They will host the University of Mary (N.D.) on Sat., Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at Alex Nemzek Field.
