Huskies Take Game from Dragons

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. - Despite out-scoring the St. Cloud State Huskies in the second half of the game 42-36, the Minnesota State University Dragons men's basketball team suffered a 80-69 loss on Friday evening.

MSUM moves to 1-2 in the NSIC, with an overall record of 3-5. St. Cloud increases their overall record to 6-2 and move 2-1 in league play.

Down by 17 at halftime, a Dragons push was led by Jake Driscoll as he hit three-three pointers in the first five minutes of the second half to cut the lead to 12.

The Huskies went up by as much as 16 again before the Dragons cut the lead to seven on a 13-4 run with 5:50 left on the clock. The momentum didn't last as a three-pointer by SCSU's Taylor Witt put the Huskies back up 10 and carried his team to their second league win.

MSUM scored 42 points in the second half, to SCSU's 36. The Huskies big-men were too much for the Dragons to contain as the team out-rebounded the Dragons, 41-26.

The Dragons had four players in double-digits including Driscoll (14), Jerome Nelson (11), Dennis Williamson (13) and Andrew VanHavermaet (14). VanHavermaet went 3-for-4 from behind the three-point line in the second half to tally nine of his 14 points off the bench. Williamson shared the lead for rebounds on the team with Dwayne Hardy, they each had five.

The Dragons will host Concordia, St. Paul in a conference game at 8 p.m. on Saturday night in Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
