Beavers Rain on Dragons Parade, 5-3

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Bemidji State Beavers routed the Minnesota State University Dragons on Saturday at Alex Nemzek Soccer Field in a 5-3 game that was played in windy and rainy conditions.

Through the light rain of the first half the Dragons and Beavers both played tough defense as only one goal was tallied. BSU was up 1-0 at half on a goal scored by Kelly Pointon with under five minutes left in the first half.

The scoring parade took place in the second half as the wind picked up and the rain began to pour. At 3:46 after intermission Sarah Tokar evened the score at one. It was her first goal of the season.

Bemidji State's Tiffany VanHaaften put her team back in the lead at 62:03 but it didn't last for long as Ashley Swason tallied a goal nearly five minutes later to tie the game at two.

Ashlee Ellefsen sealed the win for the Beavers as she scored back to back goals at 71:58 and 77:22 to give BSU a 4-2 edge.

MSUM's Abby Kettler scored an unassisted goal at 78:02 to put the Dragons within one.

Ellefsen completed her first hat trick of the season with 3:02 left in the game on her third goal, to give BSU the 5-3 win.

The Dragons will step foot on the field again at 3 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 2 in St. Cloud.
