Bulldogs Top Dragons in Last Seconds, 71-70

DULUTH, Minn. – Missed opportunities from the free-throw line resulted in the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon men's basketball 71-70 loss to the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs.

The Dragons were only 20-of-35 from the free-throw line in the game, shooting just 57 percent from the line and 40 percent from the field in the game. The Bulldogs sunk 17-of-20 from the charity stripe and matched the Dragons from the field as they shot 39.7 percent.

The game was a back and forth battle with the lead changing 6 times and tied 10 times. The Bulldogs registered five more rebounds than the Dragons, 41-36, but had four more turnovers.

Minnesota Duluth turned over the ball with five seconds left in the game, as they led by one, 71-70, giving the Dragons the chance to win the game. The Dragons fed the ball into Tarell Clark, and after a pass to Jake Driscoll the Dragons could not connect as time expired.

The Dragons end their first road series in NSIC play with a 1-1 league tally and a 4-2 overall record.

Driscoll led the field with 26 points. He scored 13 points in the first half including going 2-for-4 from long range. Alex Novak tied a career-high in blocks with six in the game. He had six blocks twice last season when he broke the single season blocks record. Novak ended the game with eight points and 14 rebounds. Clark had 14 points while Dennis Williamson scored 11.

MSU Moorhead will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 11, in Crookston, Minn. The Dragons will tip-off against Minnesota Crookston at 4 p.m.
