Dragons Come Up Short in Final Home Game

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Minnesota State Univeristy Moorhead Dragons women's basketball team (17-9, 11-8 NSIC) was plagued by poor shooting as the Northern State Wolves (14-12, 10-9 NSIC), vying for a conference play-off spot, took the game from the home team winning 58-50.

The Dragons shot just 32 percent in the game, going 19-for-60 from the field and were barely out-performed by the Wolves 40 percent that was just enough to guarantee their spot in the post-season.

Neither team held the lead by more than five points until 5:46 left in the game, when the Wolves went up by six on a jumper by Krista Rabenberg. The Wolves went up by seven just a minute later but the Dragons were able to come with in two on a jumper by Alison Nash-Gerlach and a quick three-pointer by Marisa Yernatich.

Two free-throw shots and a three pointer by NSU allowed the Wolves to regain the seven point lead with two minutes left to play. The Dragons were forced to foul as the time wound down and were unable to produce enough steam to take the lead.

Nash-Gerlach grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds, the highest by a Dragon this season, while she also chipped in 18 points. Yernatich ended the night with 12 points, going 5-of-10 from the field. Meghan Rettke tied her season high of three blocks in the game, she also had eight points and six boards.

The Dragons will play in their final regular season game on Saturday as the team will travel to Crookston to play the Golden Eagles at 2 p.m.
