Dragons Drop Doubleheader Despite Solid Pitching In Game Two

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – After opening up the Northern Sun conference schedule at home with a pair of doubleheaders, the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons set out for a tough road test against St. Cloud State Saturday. The Dragons fell in both games to start the weekend, dropping the first game 2-7 and lost game two by a 0-2 final.

The Dragons struck first in the in the opening game as Desi DeMarco hit a solo homerun to right field and gave the Dragons the lead 1-0 after a half-inning. Alexi D'Onofrio started strong for the Dragons as she worked around a walk to keep the Huskies from answering back.

D'Onofrio surrendered only one hit in the second inning but kept her team in front by a 1-0 margin. Katie Howland led off the third with a single to left field and was bunted over to second by Jessica Mroz. Howland could not advance as the next two batters grounded out.

The Huskies posted a big inning in the bottom of the third with five runs scoring to give the home squad a 5-1 lead early in the game. The Dragons mounted a rally in the sixth inning but came up short as the team fell in the first conference road game of the season, 2-7.

In the second game featured great pitching by both squads as no pitcher allowed an earned run. D'Onofrio made her second start of the day and bounced back with three strong innings of work. She only allowed two hits in the three innings of work and struck out a pair.
