MOORHEAD, Minn. - A big first half lead propelled the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon men's basketball team to their tenth win of the season as they topped hte Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears on Friday evening at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse, 86-74.
Behind a 61 percent field goal average in the first half, the Dragons put up 46 points to have a 21 point lead at halftime over the Golden Bears.
Charlie Chapman and
Dennis Williamson sparked the Dragon lead, as they put their team up 8-2 in the first two and a half minutes of the game. Chapman had 11 of his 19 points in the first half.
The Golden Bears cut the Dragon lead to eight with five minutes left in the game as Andrew Kuderer and Peter Olafeso hit back-to-back three pointers. CU was able to pull within five twice in the next minute but key shooting from the charity stripe gave the Dragons the win. The Dragons went 5-of-7 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes of the game.
Tarell Clark had 23 points on the night to lead the Dragons. He also had six of both assists and rebounds. Chapman finished the night iwth 19 while Williamson chipped in 15.
Alex Novak led the field with 15 rebounds in the game, he also had three blocks and four points.
The Dragons move to 10-6 overall and 7-5 in the league. The Golden Bears have an identical record to the Dragons as the teams are tied for sixth place in the league with ten NSIC contests left in the season.
MSU Moorhead will host St. Cloud State on Saturday evening at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
