Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. - An early goal for Augustana (S.D.) led the way to a 3-0 loss Saturday for the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's soccer team (8-5-1, 4-5-1 NSIC) in Sioux Falls. The win put the Vikings a spot ahead of the Dragons in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings.
Corner kicks were the Viking's friends as two proved to be assists during the match. An early header by the Vikings' Kate Timmons found the net following a corner kick assist from Maren Werth in the 14th minute. The goal was Timmons' second on the season and set a 1-0 start for the day.
The Dragons did not attempt a shot on goal during the first period, but showed chances to score in the second half. The first shots of the second half were taken by the Dragons with no results. Six Dragons landed a shot on goal for the entire match.
Sophomore
Victoria Hoffman saw the most action yet in the goal as she saved a season high nine shots. Hoffman's record on the season now stands at 5-3. The Viking's Amanda Wagner finished with six saves and recorded her fifth shutout of the season at goalkeeper.
In the 72nd minute, Stephanie Stevens set up Jessica Madson's first goal of the season with another corner kick. Less than a minute later, the final goal was scored by Jessie Huff following a penalty kick.
The Dragons will wrap up the weekend's play at Wayne State (Neb.) tomorrow to take on the Warriors at 1 p.m.
