MOORHEAD, Minn. - A big first half lead carried the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons to a 93-72 win over the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse on Friday in front of the largest crowd of the year on Go Pink night.
Prior to the start of the game, the Dragons honored Tari Driscoll, the mother of
Jake Driscoll, as they dedicated the game to her. She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and the fourth annual Go Pink with the Dragons raised funds and awareness for cancer. The money raised will be donated to the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo.
The Dragons built up an early lead, going up by 18 points with 8:42 left in the first half. The team, although challenged in the next eight minutes, went up 49-32.
Charlie Chapman and
Tarell Clark led the charge in the first half as they scored 12 and 13, respectively. Chapman went 4-for-6 from behind the arc, going 6-of-9 in the game for 18 total points. Clark finished with 22 to lead the field, he also had eight rebounds and two assists.
The Bulldogs cut the Dragon lead to 11 with 11 minutes left to play but MSUM built the lead back to take the win. The Dragons were upby 25 with 2:15 left to play for their largest lead of the game.
Alex Novak had a double-double in the game with 11 points and 15 rebounds. He also had two assists and two blocks, to bring his career total to 109 blocks. He is three short of tying the career record at MSUM.
Jake Driscoll had 15 points in the game and
Dennis Williamson had 13. Williamson also pulled down eight boards.
The Dragons will host Bemidji State on Saturday at 8 p.m.
