MOORHEAD, Minn. - Junior
Angie Jetvig tallied 28 points, tying her career high, on Saturday night as she led the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons over the Bemidji State Beavers, 84-74, at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
The Dragons move to 12-10 overall and 9-9 in the league while the Beavers move to 5-17 and 2-16 in the NSIC.
The Dragons built a lead early as they went up 10-2 in the first four minutes by the hands of
Brittany Mayclin who put up eight of the team's first ten points. She hit two three-pointers and a jumper to push the lead.
The lead increased to 12 at the 12:48 mark in the first half on a three-pointer by
Betsy Dickson. Dickson had 16 points on the night, the second highest point total by a Dragon.
MSUM went up by as much as 20 points in the first half, leading 45-25 at the 3:40 mark. The Beavers attempted to chip away the Dragons lead as they went on a 9-1 run to end the first half, down 46-34.
BSU cut the Dragons lead to six points in the second half, 63-57, with 8:03 left to play. The Dragons responded by going 7-for-8 from the field in the following four minutes to increase their lead to 16 with 3:07 left in the game.
This was Jetvig's 20th game in double figures this season and her sixth game with 25+ points. She had a double-double with 12 rebounds, seven of which came on defense.
Haley Thomforde had ten points in the game while Mayclin,
Morgan Zabel and
Megan Strese each tallied eight points.
The Dragons continued to rebound better than their opponents, picking up 13 more boards than the Beavers, 33-20.
MSU Moorhead will close out their regular season home games next weekend as they host Winona State on Friday, Feb. 18 and Upper Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 19. The game will be played at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse, with both game scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Feb. 19 will feature senior night, honoring both
Betsy Dickson and
Abby Reiter. The Dragon Athletics Marketing team will host FILL THE FIELDHOUSE on the same night where there will be more give-aways than ever before at a Dragon event, including a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, sponsored by Valley Imports.
