Dragon Softball Splits on Day Two at Husky Classic

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota State University Moorhead softball team split action on Saturday, the second day of the Husky Classic. The Dragons lost their first game of the day to the Augustana Vikings, 16-4, and topped the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles, 6-1.

GAME ONE
The Vikings jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first as they capitalized on a Dragon error to score early. They tacked on three more runs in the third inning after the Dragons tallied a run in the bottom of the second.

MSUM scored the run on Steeli Norton's first home run of her Dragon career. It as a solo shot over the center field fence.

AC went up 7-1 in the fourth, but the Dragons cut the lead to three in the bottom half of the inning. Molly Keeler started the ining off with a single to left field, setting up Norton for her second home run of the game. This one went over the left field fence.

Samantha Adolph knocked in Simone Parcells on a single into left field. Parcells reached on a fielders choice.

The Vikings put up nine more runs in the sixth inning to go up 16-4, and ending the game after the bottom half of the sixth inning.

GAME TWO
The Dragons won their first game of the season againsthte Golden Eagles, 6-1, in their final game of the Husky Classic.

The Dragons had 13 hits in the game. Katie Howalnd and Mara Litzer both picked up three hits, while Molly Keeler and AJ Hoefer each had two hits.

The Dragons went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning, and it was all theywould need to take the win.

Howland led the game off with a single to right center, and after stealing second base, she would score on a double by Liter down the right line.  Hoefer scored Litzer on a ground-rule double, while Hoefer went across home plate on a sacrifice bunt by Norton.

UMC cut the MSUM lead to two in the bottom of the third inning, 3-1, but would fall short as the Dragons tallied on one run in each the fifth, sixth and seventh inning.

The Dragons are 1-3 overall this season. They will play again in Cocoa, Fla. on March 13-19.
