Dragon Softball Tallies Win Over Golden Eagles to Split Wednesday's Games

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – The Minnesota Staet University Moorhead Dragon softball team was anchored by a big three-run home run in their second game on Wednesday to top Minnesota Crookston, 5-2, after suffering a loss in their first game, 6-2, to Huntington (Ind.).

The three-run came off the bat of Molly Keeler, with no outs in the bottom of the first inning. It was her sixth long ball of the year. The three runs were all that the Dragons would need against the Golden Eagles on their way to improving their overall record to 6-5. The team is 5-2 at the Cocoa Beach Classic.

The Dragons scored two more runs in the game, that came in the bottom of the second inning as Mara Litzer hit a double deep in right-center field that would score Katie Howland and Alexa D'Onofrio. Howland picked up two hits in the game and scored two runs.

D'Onofrio picked up her first win of the season as she improved her record to 1-2. She faced 33 batters, struckout three and gave up nine hits.

In game one, the Dragons put up the first run as Howland led off the game with a triple down the right field line. She would score on a ground-out by Miranda Bronson.

HU tied the game in the bottom half of the first inning on a two-out single that scored their lead-off batter who reached on a double.

MSUM would take the lead one more time as Amanda Hoefer knocked Howland in from second base on a single into right center field. Howland reached on a single through the six-hole.

Huntington would score two runs on a home run in the bottom of the third and three more runs in the game to take the win.

Both Howland and Bronson picked up two hits in the game, while Howland tallied both runs. Stelli Norton took her first loss of the season as her record moves to 3-1 overall. She faced 21 batters, struck out two and gave up nine hits. Litzer closed the game facing eight batters, striking out three and giving up one hit.

The Dragons will face Fisher on Thursday in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. (EST).
