BEMIDJI, Minn. – Unique circumstances allowed the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons to earn a walk-off win on the road when they kicked off their long road weekend, which included three doubleheaders in five days, with a pair of games against Bemidji State.
The Dragons, forced to play in Bemidji due to weather and field conditions in Moorhead, were not in the confines of Nemzek Field but played as the home team in both contests. The Dragons fell in the opener 5-3 but bounced back in dramatic fashion in the encore.
GAME 1
The Beavers jumped out ahead early in the opening frame, putting up three runs on a wild pitch and a Kayla Babinski single that plated two runs. The Dragons biggest threat came in the fourth inning with a
Mara Litzer single coupled with a pair of Beaver errors to load the bases for
Amanda Moore.
Moore made the fourth Beaver error of the game pay off for the Dragons as she pulled the ball to left field, scoring both Litzer and A.J. Hoefer. The Dragons ended the fourth, pulling with in one of the Beavers. After the Beavers responded with a pair of runs in the fifth the Dragons cut the lead down to two with a sacrifice bunt by
Jessica Hollis.
The Dragons third attempt at a comeback did not yield any further runs and the Dragons rally was spoiled, falling in the first game 5-3.

GAME 2
In the encore, the Dragons and Beavers took part in a pitcher's dual, surrendering only one run combined until the seventh inning. The lone run for the Beavers came off a Megan Beard single that scored Hayley Williams. The Dragons tied the game on their last out in the seventh and walked off with a win in the eighth thanks to
Molly Keeler.
The Dragons mounted a late rally in the seventh down by one with
Katie Howland at the plate. The Dragons had both
Amanda Moore and
Coley Thompson in scoring position after Moore walked and Thompson reached on an error.
Following a
Sam Adolph sacrifice bunt, Howland reached on an error that plated the tying run. The Dragons couldn't tack on the winning run but did force the game into extra innings. In the eighth,
Alexa D'Onofrio finished her run of 3 1/3 shutout innings after coming on in relief of
Steeli Norton in the fifth to give the Dragons a chance at the win.
In the bottom of the eighth,
Molly Keeler, who leads the Dragons in homeruns, took an 0-1 pitch over the wall for her ninth homerun on the season as the Dragons stunned the Beavers in walk-off fashion, winning 2-1.

The Dragons move their record to 3-9 in the NSIC and 11-14 overall. The Beavers fall to 1-9 in the NSIC and 2-16 overall.
The Dragons continue their road schedule with a doubleheader against the Marauders of the University of Mary (N.D.) on Saturday with the first game beginning at 1 p.m. On Sunday, the Dragons face off against the Wolves of Northern State (S.D.) at Noon.
