Dragons Break Home Run Record, Fall To Wayne State

| By:

WAYNE, Neb. - The Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon softball team dropped two league games on Friday to the Wayne State Wildcats, but the losses were bittersweet as the team broke the school's home run record.

The Dragons move to 11-17 overall and 3-12 in league play. The Wildcats continue their hot streak, moving to 27-12 overall and 15-3 in the NSIC.

GAME ONE BOX SCORE
The Wildcats were held scoreless in the first inning but their bats didn't stay quiet as they put up seven runs in the next two innings to solidify the win in five innings, 12-1.

The Dragons lone run came in the top of the fifth inning as Steeli Norton hit a long ball over the left field fence to break the MSUM home run record and take away the Wildcat's shut-out. The record of 21 was tied yesterday as Mara Litzer hit a home run against Northern State, but the 2011 squad took over the top slot with 22 on the year, to this point. The home runs accounted for Norton's third and Litzer's second of the year.

GAME TWO BOX SCORE
The Dragons picked up five hits in the second game, with Amanda Hoefer accounting for two of the team's hits. Amanda Moore had both team's RBI in the game, as she hit a home run to move the program record to 23 on the year.

The final score of the second game was 10-2.

MSU Moorhead will return to the diamond on Saturday, in Sioux Falls, S.D., against Augustana. The games are set to start at 12 and 2 p.m.
